Hermaphrodite – Rick has 3 new patients. All brothers, all hermaphrodites. Born with both male and female genitalia, they have elevated testosterone levels but also elevated LH (LH surge in females causes ovulation) and Estradiol. Very interesting that all 3 brothers have the same congenital defect.
Everything in Ethiopia takes a while – Internet is slow, public transportation is spotty at best and the hills make for long, difficult, but fun walks
Awassa is gonna be fun (we are leaving tomorrow, returning Thursday night) – I am bringing my fly-fishing gear and hope to catch a tilapia for dinner…we'll see how that goes.
Tonight is abebe's birthday and I am taking him to Blue Tops – they have some of the best Italian food anywhere and we did it last year…a new tradition
List of the different cancers I saw today at Dr. Khalid's Ped Onc clinic @ Black Lion:
~Acute Lymphocyte Leukemia (6 yo boy)
~Burkitt's Lymphoma (4 yo boy)
~Intra-abdominal Neuroblastoma
~Retinoblastoma (4 yo girl)
(We saw all of these patients in one hour and when Dr. Khalid left, there were still 100+ waiting at the clinic…Black Lion is a madhouse of suffering)
Internet café – working connection + "Let's Get it On" by Marvin Gaye > Internet café without music + working connection
That's all folks...may be a few days before my next post but hopefully I return with glorious tales of the monstrous fish, pretty runs through the countryside, and more business ideas (I've been churning them out left and right, but that's another post altogether)
